Iron Health Balls have been used for hundreds of years in China, both by emperors and ordinary people. Regular use is reputed to calm the mind and body, and to prevent, alleviate and even cure some ailments. Originally the balls were solid, but then they were made hollow, each containing a chiming mechanism: one chimes a high note representing the 'yin' (the female, moon, the phoenix), the other a low note, the 'yang' (the male, the sun, the dragon).
